Building Services
Building Services Engineering gives you access to all the products and services you need to make your building function electrically and mechanically, including light, heat, power, air conditioning, security, water and wastes management.
The design of hot and cold water systems is one of the core remits of the building services engineer.
The efficient generation and supply of hot water is an area in which an engineer can save significant amounts of energy. And in recent years, the drive to reduce global carbon emissions has filtered down to heating appliances, with some innovative designs being launched.
Reducing cold water wastage must also be reasonably provided for, through the specification of efficient fittings and appliances. Products such as taps, cisterns and water harvesting systems can all contribute to this.
These newer requirements are in addition to the traditional issues that face the building services professional: to design a system that provides wholesome, potable water, is appropriately sized to maintain adequate pressure and flow, and has the provision to prevent bursting.
