Surface water and stormwater management has become a pre-requisite for most construction projects. SDS Ltd won a £6 million contract to provide bespoke attenuation tanks on the M25 widening scheme. It is one of the largest infrastructure projects undertaken in the UK this century.
Solution
Main contractor Skanska Balfour Beatty (SBBJV) worked closely with SDS, who came up with innovative concepts for dealing with surface water and stormwater and won the project based on the final technical design solution.
Benefits
The solution to provide bespoke attenuation tanks for different sections of the M25 greatly reduced the civil engineering cost of the overall project. SDS was able to react to the clients requirements, and through its investment in manufacture and R&D, was able to provide a cost-efficient, sustainable solution.
The value-engineering approach has enabled SDS to grow to annual sales of £12 million in seven years, with 2009 results increased 30% on the previous year. The growth is also due to complete involvement on projects from design and manufacture to installation and maintenance.
As a result of the M25 work, SDS is now working on other major infrastructure projects across the UK.
