The Downstream Defender^® is an advanced hydrodynamic vortex separator for the removal of sediment, oil and floatables from stormwater runoff.

The Downstream Defender^® is proven to be more efficient than other structural treatment devices: it uses only 50% of the footprint of conventional structures and is the only deviced that has internal components proven to prevent pollutant re-entrainment (or washout).

The Downstream Defender® can be used to enhance or enable a SUDS solution. It can be used to protect other SUDS elements such as ponds or attenuation tanks. 

The Downstream Defender® can be used in conjunction with our Hydro-Brake® Flow Control and Stormbloc® storage/infiltration system, to provide a complete SUDS solution which includes flow control, storage / infiltration and treatment.

  The precarious wetland habitat at Shortwood Pond off the A308 by the Crooked Billet Roundabout is home to endangered species such as the Brown Galingale plant and the Little Whirlpool Ramshorn snail. It is part of Staines Moor, located at the eastern end of Colne Valley Park, which contains many Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

  Highway degradation and surface water pollution in an environmentally sensitive area of the Scottish Cairngorms Mountains, famous for its whisky production, have been tackled with an imaginative SuDS Solution from Hydro International which has averted potential road safety problems on the A95. Poor drainage, flooding and freezing weather had led to a landslip and extreme surface degradation along a section of the narrow A95 that descends on a 10% gradient with tight bends to the picturesque village of Craigellachie on the River Spey, near Elgin.
