Beestone sandstone cladding for interiors

Beestone is a fine-grained, rich red sandstone with visible bedding lines, which lends itself perfectly to interior and exterior cladding.

The stone has been used for a number of prestigious projects, including the Performing Arts Center in Ontario, Canada. A full design and supply package was called for on this project. Beestone was chosen for its deep red colour and the resemblance to the East Coast reds used in the past.

The stone was used internally around the atrium and the sweeping staircase in a sandblasted finish. Outside, the stone has a rubbed finish and gives the building an impressive look as approached from the front.

Geological type: Triassic sandstone.
Colour: plum red/brown with darker bedding lines.
Water absorption: 3.11%.
Porosity: 12.36%.
Density: 2337kg/m3.
Compressive strength: wet 66MPa; dry 115MPa.
Saturation coefficient: 0.63%.
Flexural strength: wet 5MPa; dry 7MPa
Acid immersion: pass.
Modulus of rupture perpendicular to rift: dry 11.9MPa.
Freeze/thaw: tests indicate that failure due to frost is unlikely.
