Kirkstone Quarries is a family run business established in 1949, based in the Lake District in the northwest of England. Kirkstones primary materials are green and blue-black slates for applications including flooring, cladding and paving.

Kirkstone produce all forms of architectural stone for interior and exterior applications along side work surfaces, bathrooms, shower trays, wet rooms, fireplaces and memorials. In addition to quarrying its own stone in the Lake District, it works with modern engineered stones as well as importing selected limestones, marbles and granites from the finest quarries around the world.

Rock extraction and architectural stone production takes place at the main quarry on Kirkstone Pass, over 500m above sea level. The production facilities for bespoke items such as work surfaces as well as the head office and trade showroom are located at Skelwith Bridge near Ambleside.

In October 2011 Kirkstone Quarries opened a new showroom on the site where the company was originally established 62 years ago. Kirkstone employed HM Architecture to transform an old outhouse in Skelwith Bridge, the home of their head office and stone finishing facility, into a contemporary display space showcasing the best in architectural stonework through innovative displays of cladding, flooring, treads, risers, work surfaces, mullioned windows and surrounds. All the products are made by skilled local craftsmen from the beautiful green and black slates of the Lake District.

The new showroom is testament to the fact that the company has gone from strength to strength, employing 40 skilled personnel, ranging from experienced rock hands, sawyers, polishers and masons to technical sales and administrative staff.
