ESI was established in 1988, publishing the first edition of External Works in 1989.
Since then it has grown its portolio to four directories serving the construction and
industrial sectors in the UK, and has invested heavily in systems architecture and enterprise
search technology to deliver the information on this website in a user friendly and intuitive
manner. ESI has over 1250 advertising clients in the UK ranging from blue chip companies
employing thousands of staff to small specialist companies. |

ESI has historically focused on delivering technical product information. With the rapid rise in the use of the
internet for information sourcing and management, our focus is now changing. Our intention is to create an
online marketplace where individuals can contribute to and manage their own content using our information
architecture. In 2009 we broadened the scope of the site by including information on consultants, contractors
and trade organisations. There are opportunities for companies to invest in various forms of advertising,
including premium web pages to communicate factual information on products and services offered, as well as
button and banner advertising for specific campaigns and to build brand awareness. We also offer qualified
contact information for use in direct marketing campaigns and market research programmes.
Based in Stirling in central Scotland, the company has 45 employees, the majority of whom are based at the
head office in Scotland. In-house expertise includes data architecture, information systems design, editorial
content creation and management, market research and graphic design. ESI Sales Managers operate remotely,
servicing clients throughout the whole of the UK.
